Greenhouse Farming

8/14/2014

In May of 2013, Auburn University Women in Science and Engineering Institute and Penn State were gracious enough to donate our first greenhouse. A few months later, Dr. Ngumbi, sponsored another greenhouse.

Success!

In the first year, we were able to successively grow tomatoes.

Challenges

In our first operational Greenhouses, we learned that construction can have a monumental impact on production. The Coastal region of Kenya is generally hot and humid and Greenhouse production had to follow certain delicate procedures. Lessons learned from our first operational greenhouses have led us to erect greenhouses that take into consideration the hot and humid weather.

Breakthrough

In November of 2013, Ms. Joann Cummings of Decatur, Alabama, sponsored our third greenhouse. Incorporating lessons we had learned earlier, we built a screen house.

OYESKA GREENS will continue doubling screen houses/greenhouses until we have over 1000 functional greenhouses.

Stay tuned as we walk the journey…
